Vale Terry Arnold

Terry Arnold, former President 1996-1998, age manager and life member of the Centre passed away on 18 August 2018 after a long battle with cancer at the age of 74.

During his era he provided a valuable contribution to the development of Little Athletics in the Manly Warringah area. His legacy continues on in the form of one of our perpetual trophies recognising exemplary sportsmanship named in his honour.

We extend our best wishes and condolences to Chris and the family.

Age group changes 2018/19

From the commencement of the 2018/2019 competition season, Little Athletics across Australia is changing the date on which it determines its age groups, to December 31.

Athletes born during the period October 1 to December 31 will progress up an additional age group (ie: two age groups) heading into the 2018/2019 season.

The decision to change the age groupings was made by State and National level bodies.

The MWLAC did not support the decision and, in fact, was one of several local centres that co-signed a petition against the change.

We will, however, be subject to the changes for the season ahead.

It should be noted:

  • Affected athletes who would have been in their second year of under-17 competition, will still be offered Centre, Zone, Region and State levels of competition (for the 2018/2019 season only).
  • Eligibility criteria for the Australian Little Athletics Championships (ALAC) have been adjusted to include athletes affected by the age group change.
  • Adjustments have also been made to selection/eligibility criteria for the Trans-Tasman competition and National Under-15s camp
  • No new records will be established as a result of the change in age groups

Little Athetics NSW has released a handbook outlining the changes and potential implications in further detail.

It can be found at

Vale Bev Jaye

It is with deep sadness that Manly Warringah Little Athletics Centre advises of the passing of founding member and Life Member Bev Jaye.

Mr Jaye has been involved with MWLAC since its inception in 1970.

He held various committee positions over a number of years.

He was also the throwing events coach for most of his 47 year association with the centre.

More than that, he was a much loved and highly respected figure at the centre throughout the past five decades.

He had continued as throwing coaching right up until our most recent season, in 2017/18, where he was a constant figure at the shot put rink at both Monday night training at Narrabeen and Wednesday night training at Beacon Hill.

He will be sorely missed.

A funeral for Bev Jaye will be held at the North Chapel of Northern Suburbs Crematorium, 199 Delhi Rd, North Ryde at 10.15am on Monday July 2.
