(Please note we have very few people who have signed up to help at SOPAC; if we don’t have enough volunteers for these meets they will not be able to proceed, so if you are planning on attending, please consider signing up to help).

Training

Training commences on Monday the 9th September. Training is not compolsory but Age Managers can't provide training during Saturday morning competitions so athletes who want to develop their skills are encouraged to attend at least one training a week.

Training is available to all athletes. Our Monday night technical training is for athletes in the 9s and above who are competent in a particular discipline and would like to develop their skills and master their event. Sessions are from 5:30pm and must be booked in advance (bookings open a week in advance). Athletes will be checked in on arrival.  Training sessions can be booked via the website (mwlac.org.au) under the Traning sessions tab at the top.  You will need to login using the athletes username and password.  The username was included in your registration confirmation email and you can set the password using the link in that email or via the website using the 'forgot login details" on the login page.

To ensure all athletes have an opportunity to participate in training, repeated instances of booking and not attending will result in the athlete becoming ineligible to book and attend future training sessions.  If your plans change, please cancel as early as possible (no later than Saturday evening). For those who fall sick or become injured on the day, please cancel by lunchtime Monday so we can advise families that spots are available. Athletes who are unable to book in any particular session on a Monday are welcome to attend middle distance training or walks training as these are currently uncapped in terms of numbers.

Wednesday night general training is available to all athletes of any age group or ability level. Training will commence on Wednesday the 11th September.  Bookings are required for Peninsula, Wakehurst, Cromer and Manly athletes (but there are no limits to attendance). These clubs will all train at Narrabeen, while Seaforth will continue to train at Seaforth Oval. Athletes rotate through events each week to enable broader exposure and skill development in multiple disciplines.

Why are we taking bookings?

In order to allow our coaches to effectively work with the athletes, we need to maintain reasonable training group sizes.  We believe this will help to allow athletes to get the most out of these sessions. Bookings and attendance also helps us better understand the events our athletes are most interested in attending so we can focus on sourcing additional coaches in those areas.

Qualification reqirements for championships are on our website so please ensure your familiarise yourself with them.
